ESAT Website Search
This search application allows you to search the contents of the WWW documents in
www.esat.kuleuven.be.
To search in all domains of the K.U.Leuven, you should use the
Campus Wide Information Service Robot.
-
Search word(s)
-
You can specify one or more words;
searching is done case-insensitive.
-
Match
-
You can consider a search successfull if
all specified words are present in a document
or else if any of the specified words is found;
if you prefer a
Boolean search, then you can make use of the
Boolean operators
and,
or,
not
and the round braces ( and ).
-
Format
-
Short renders only the score and the title of a matched document;
the long format also shows:
the first few lines of text,
the URL,
the date of last modification and
the size in bytes.
-
Sort by
-
The matched documents will be sorted on:
relevance (score),
date of last modification or
title (alphabetically).
-
Score
-
The score of a matched document is determined by the number of times the specified word(s) appear;
different weights are taken into account for where they appear;
more important locations are: in the title, in meta-specifications, in headers (<h1>, <h2>, ...)
and it is also taken into account whether an appearance is at the beginning or at the end of the document.
-
The database
-
All publicly available WWW pages of the ESAT website should be in the database.
Because only documents to which a link is present are put in the database, unlinked
documents will never be found.
Because the database is updated once a day it can take a day before a new page is
found in a search.
